One of the most beautiful experiences in the spiritual life is to discover how much God loves us. 

Santa Ángela de Foligno (1248-1309) had the grace of that experience, as he relates in various places of his work "Book of Life" (or simply "The book" or "Memorial"). 

In one of the passages of this work, the Saint shows his surprise before so much love:

"And when my soul said, why do you have such a great love for me that I am a sinner? Why are you so pleased with me that I am so immensely unworthy? For me that in all my life I did nothing but offend you? " 

At that time Angela recognized her utter indignity: "Then I saw that I had never done any good without committing many flaws.”

How did God respond to the feelings of that mysticism? She expresses it thus: "And He comforted me: It Is so great the love that I have put in you that I do not remember your faults. My eyes don't look at them. In you, I have hidden a great treasure. " 

Yes: God has put in every baptized a great treasure. Not only has he forgiven our faults but he repeats to us again and again that he loves us very much, that we are important to Him.

For, as St. John teaches, "In this is love: Not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent us his Son as the propitiation for our sins" (1Jn 4.10). 

We're all wrapped up in the love of God. Like so many saints of the past and the present, we can let him cleanse our sins and whisper to the heart what he repeated so many times to St. Angela of Foligno:

"My daughter, much dearer to me than I to thee, Temple, my delight: the heart of God Almighty is now upon your heart.”
