Populorum Progressio

On the development of nations

Encyclical Letter of the Pope Paul VI March 26, 1967

The development of nations-mainly those who put their efforts to free themselves from the yoke of hunger, misery, endemic diseases, and ignorance; of those who crave a more intense participation in the fruits of civilization, a more active appreciation of their human peculiarities; and that, finally, they are oriented with constant decision towards the goal of their full development-, this development of nations, we say, is observed with as much attention as hope for the Church itself.
