Roman martyrology: Anna of the Angels was a Dominican mystic of Peru, and she is revered as the second St. Rose of Lima. Virgin of the Order of Preachers, with her gifts of counseling and prophecy she dedicated her life to promoting the good of the whole city.


Beatification date: 2 February 1985 by Pope John Paul II in Arequipa, Peru.


SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Born on July 26, 1602 in Arequipa, Peru as Anna Monteagudo Ponce de León. Educated at a convent. Over the objection of her family, she became a Dominican nun in 1618; she wore the veil for 68 years.
Novice mistress for many years. Prioress at the monastery of San Caterina da Siena.



She died on January 10, 1686 in Arequipa, Peru of natural causes and interred at the monastery of Saint Catherine of Siena in Arequipa.
