SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Born in Petilia Policastro, Italy, he was son of Romulus. His family seems to have orginally been from Greece. Served as 19th Pope for about six weeks.
We know little about this pope, but for certain he only reigned some forty days, from November 21, 235. He succeeded Saint Pontianus.

Started the Vatican library to preserve documents concerning the early martyrs. Antherus was put to death by the tyrant Maximus for refusing to deliver up a volume in which he had registered the “Acts of the Martyrs,” and was buried in the famous “papal crypt” of the cemetery of Saint Calixtus at Rome.
