Roman martyrology: In the city of Novara, in Liguria (Italy today), St. Gaudentius of Novara, who is considered the first bishop of this site (c. 418) .
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Born at Ivrea, Italy. Convert. Priest at Ivrea near Turin, Italy. Friend of Saint Laurence of Novara, Saint Eusebius of Vercelli and Saint Ambrose of Milan. Bishop of Novara, Italy from 398 until his death, serving for nearly 20 years. Legend says that after his death, the corpse began repeating sermons Gaudentius had given so that his priests could write them down and continue to use them.
He died on 417 of natural causes.
