Roman martyrology:  At Tomis, in Scythia, St. Bretannion, bishop, who by his great sanctity, and his zeal for the Catholic faith, shone in the Church, under the Arian emperor Valens, whom he opposed with fortitude.

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Bishop of Tomi, Scythia (modern Constanta, Romania). He opposed Arianism for which he was exiled by Emperor Valens; the people of Tomi forced the emperor to restore him to his see.
