Sacred Journey

A Pilgrimage to the Stations of the Cross in Jerusalem.

“All pilgrimage is rooted in the belief in the sanctity of the sacred places where deities have appeared, or where Gods and goddesses have intervened, or where deities have become human,” writes award-winning photographer and author Steven Brooke in his new book SACRED JOURNEY: A Pilgrimage to the Stations of the Cross in Jerusalem.

“Pilgrimage to Jerusalem is qualitatively different from pilgrimage anywhere else,” both the place of the miracle and the site for its celebration in architectural and ritual form. And with these images of Jerusalem I invite the reader to travel as I did—perhaps for the first time—through this mystical city.”

For centuries the Stations of the Cross have been a rich subject for scholars and a beloved cornerstone for the faithful.  With the publication of SACRED JOURNEY readers can now embark on their own spiritual journey and enter the Holy City of Jerusalem through Brooke’s photographic depiction of the last mortal steps of Christ.

Accompanying the fully captioned photos are a detailed history of the Stations of the Cross dating from the fifth to the twentieth century, traditional hymns and prayers, relevant quotations from the Bible, maps that guide readers along the way, as well as a bibliography and suggested reading list.
