Bella (Metanoia Films) is a movie about redemption with a subtle yet clear pro-life message. José, an ex-athletic star, finds himself reaching out to Nina, a single, pregnant young woman who has just been fired from her job at a restaurant. As they embark on their journey of healing and help, José is confronted with the tragedies of his own past, encountering redemption while guiding Nina through her own turmoil. Bella shows the beauty of life-giving love in a culture where love’s definition stops at romance.
“The main actor in Bella reaches out to a woman in a troubled pregnancy and becomes a ‘lifeguard’. This is the subtle but very powerful message of life, hope and the power we all have to change people’s lives,” said Mike Hernon, president of The Catholic Association. The Catholic Association has launched a national campaign called “’Bella’ for Life” to promote the motion picture Bella as a catalyst to renew and increase pro-life activity and advance the culture of life.
“Bella for Life is trying to build a new army of lifeguards for our world,” Hernon said. It seeks to transform interest from the movie into pro-life activity. As lifeguards, people will have an opportunity to be paired with a local crisis pregnancy center. Interested parties can register at www.Bellaforlife.org and will be connected with a local center in need. As other opportunities arise, information will be passed along to them.
Bella for Life is reaching out to every diocese and millions of Catholics with the pro-life message of Bella. The hope is to illuminate the real situation and struggles of women considering abortion and better facilitate help for them to choose life. “This movie is a ‘teaching moment’ on the sanctity of life and the important role we can all play in saving lives. We want to encourage parishes and Catholic groups to use this as an opportunity to spread the gospel of life,” adds Hernon.
For parishes and groups, a tool kit is available from the web site, www.Bellaforlife.org. Tool kits will contain parish bulletin inserts, suggestions for a Bella movie night including discussions for adults and young adults, ways to get Bella into local theatres, suggestions for presentations and homilies, and ways parishioners can be lifeguards in their local communities. These resources can all be used to advance the culture of life and give people a more proactive and hands-on approach to the battle for life. In addition, anyone wishing to contribute to the mission of The Catholic Association can find opportunities through www.Bellaforlife.org.The official site for the movie Bella is www.bellathemovie.com.
