Before and After, Back and Forth

In some ways of presenting the history of humanity it is used to terms that speak about time and space, especially when analyzing the lesser or greater progress of the peoples.

Between those terms, two refer to the time: before and after. Two other terms allude to space: back and forth.

It is easy to associate "before" to "back", whereas "after" (or now, if used as different from "before") would be attached to "forward".

The use of those terms stimulates the mind but can lead to perspective errors in certain ratings. For example, when it is judged that a person is delayed because he or she has been "behind" and seeks to live in the past (in the "before").

These errors occur when it is thought that the now (or later) would be automatically better than before, as if the changes were guarantee of improvement, progress, progress.

A little insight is enough to recognize that some changes that have left "back" ways of thinking and living have been damaging and therefore impeded real progress.

At the same time, in today's world, people and peoples live as they think and live as they did decades ago, or even centuries, without implying that they have been left behind or missed the train of history.

In fact, every human being, living as alive, think as you think, is a protagonist in the story. Their ideas and behaviors may be judged as better or worse, but there is no point in condemning them as if they had been overcome by the "forward" or "after".

It is not fair, therefore, to say that a person who chooses not to use a computer has been left behind, because without that device he can do a thousand good things. Nor is it right to say that someone else has progressed to the best simply because they have a mobile phone.

It is not fair, therefore, to say that a person who chooses not to use a computer has been left behind, because without that device he can do a thousand good things. Nor is it right to say that someone else has progressed to the best simply because they have a mobile phone.

Only from these parameters we come to a good understanding of what is the authentic and just progress that we hope will reach everything, whether they live without sophisticated technologies or using newly invented electronic devices.
